(Midnight Special) NACC
Ever since we first hit the “rec” button for a Midnight Special Records record in a small Parisian apartment, we’ve had your support: fans, media, partners, artists, families. That’s why we would like to thank you and celebrate this first decade with a record like the old days: spontaneous, collaborative, and in our (new!) studio. We present to you Nocturnes, composed of 9 tracks on the theme of the night. For one month, Cléa Vincent, Manon David (ex-Le Groupe Obscur), Michelle Blades, Laure Briard, and other well-known figures and friends from the Midnight Special Records adventure united in recording this album comprised of 9 tracks, each about the theme of nighttime.
Each with their own interpretation of the topic, this album includes a diverse range of tracks, from the up tempo (Cléa Vincent’s “Gens de la nuit,” KIM’s “La Notte Domani”), to the introspective (Trypheme’s “Sleep Forever,” Manon David’s “Les lumières au hasard”), as well as a tribute to Victor Jara (Michelle Blade’s “Mi Pais es una idea”) and two covers/adaptations (Laure Briard’s “Les Nuits de la pleine lune” and Magic Doud’s retrofuturist version of Chopin’s “Nocturne Op9 No.2”). We also find "Une luna de Papel,” a piece produced in Venezuela by Gentlemay in collaboration with Vincent Guyot and Rémi Foucard and “Please please please” by Ashtray, also known by the name Marius Duflot (sound engineer and co-founder of the label). The record sleeve for Nocturnes was created by Lou Benesch, the label’s graphic designer, as a tribute to the astronomer Camille Flammarion.
