The West in Dust label is a collaborative endeavor between two genuine electronic music devotees—Dave Reep (a man responsible for multiple production outfits including Elephant & Castle) and music writer/producer Glenn Jackson (James & Evander). Deeply rooted in Oakland, California’s burgeoning beatmaker scene, West In Dust is the pair’s humble attempt to further champion quality electronic sounds, focused on artists that are inventive and forward-thinking while not losing touch with what makes music enjoyable.
The forthcoming debut label comp, West In Dust 2012, showcases the corner of the music world one can expect to hear from the imprint, with 14 tracks taken from the stonier side of bass music that switch their focus between moody pockets of haze and forward-thinking dancefloor tunes. There's a healthy amount of ground covered here, from an international collection of producers, most of which who have bubbling in underground circles, and some of which appear for the first time on this release. Following this initial sampling, West In Dust will be dropping an EP of new material from Placeholder, a proper debut from Medla, and more in the coming months.
